Yesterday was Matthew's third birthday. He started out the day at 6:30, which is mighty early for the Nadelhoffer house. He woke up with, "Mom! It's my birthday! I want to open presents!" I was just as excited as he was, but didn't want to wake up the rest of the house so I coaxed him in the basement to play before breakfast. As soon as he walked downstairs he saw the presents and climbed onto the table and quietly sat next to them for a long time. Finally he asked, "Can we open them now?" I must have told him 5001 more times that we needed to wait until Daddy and Sissy got up before we opened them. Finally, at 8am we couldn't wait any longer. We marched upstairs to yell, "Wake up, sleepy head!" in Daddy's sleeping face. That was my favorite part of the birthday. I got the kids dressed and sat them down for a nice round of Grandma-will-appreciate-these-pictures-sit-still-and-smile-while-we're-waiting-for-your-father-to-come-downstairs camera time. Notice Natalie. She tends to have puffy eyes in the morning, I don't know if you can see it on the picture or not, bless her heart.
Here's the birthday boy opening up his presents. It takes much skill and concentration.
Thank-you to all of you that sent cards and love and gifts in the mail. We had a wonderful day. My neighbor actually randomly knocked on our door and asked if she could unload some toys on us. She said that they were in good shape but that her kids didn't use them anymore because they're a little older now. Well, unload she did! She brought over two big boxes of large leggos, a wooden castle set for building, Lincoln Logs, games, and best of all, a beautiful Thomas the Train set with a storage bin and all the trains Matthew could ever want. We were thrilled and Matthew was astounded. He ran back to our neighbor's house and flung open her door and gave her a huge hug and said, "Thank-you for my presents!" The best part was that my neighbor had no clue that it was Matthew's birthday, nor did she know how much we really wanted to buy Matthew his own train set. Here he is with his newfound joy...
When he lets the choo-choos rest for a minute, his next-best thing are the puzzles. The kid has the patience of Job and loves doing puzzles. He received seven puzzles for his birthday, so needless to say, we're set for the cold weather to come. Speaking of cold weather, I think of cold weather bringing basketball season upon us, so what better gift for Grandma and Grandpop to send than a 7-foot blow up Jump and Jam for the basement! Here we are in the process of trying to blow it up. So far we have one side blown up and the electric pump got a little over-heated so we're waiting for it to cool down before we finish. Four hours later the pump is still
cooling down (a.k.a. I hope it's not broken!) and a friend is bringing over her air pump tomorrow. I'll post a picture when it's all up and the kids are bouncing in it.

What fun! The blow up thing looks like a blast - I'm sure it will provide hours of entertainment. BTW, Rebecca: get some cucumbers on Natalie's eyes!
Happy Birthday Matthew!
